About TUIG
The Towson University Investment Group (TUIG), formerly WiiC, was founded in 2000 to create a forum where highly motivated, like-minded students could acquire real-world experience by conducting high quality qualitative research. The organization provides the reality of daily investment management that is a strong supplemental experience to the education provided by the Towson University College of Business & Economics. Students benefit by gaining a familiarity with researching, analyzing, and managing equity investments. TUIG is affiliated with the Towson University College of Business & Economics and the Department of Finance. Our members cooperate with faculty to advance the College’s mission and promote academic success; we work with our Finance Department faculty advisor Dr. Lijing Du. The Investment Group seeks to achieve superior returns above a weighted benchmark over the long-term through the active management of the portfolio. All transactions are made at the discretion of the organizations members and all funds are invested in the interest of the Towson University Foundation. Inc. TUIG manages a large-cap, value-oriented equity portfolio that conforms to the investment principles outlined in the Investment Policy Statement. This organization’s success is contingent on the members’ educational objectives, desire for depth of market knowledge, and commitment to our focus on investing principles.
TUIG manages an all equity portfolio currently valued at roughly $300,000 (as of November 2022). TUIG was founded and originally funded in 2000 with $5,000 on a trial basis. Since then, the Towson University Foundation, Inc. supplemented $100,000 for the Fund. Our student-run organization offers members the opportunity to apply classroom concepts and knowledge of finance to conduct research on companies that they feel would be a beneficial addition to the portfolio.
Meetings are held weekly from 6:30-7:30 PM in the T. Rowe Price Finance Lab located in Stephens Hall 112, Towson University

Philosophy
TUIG is a predominately bottom up investment fund. We use a buy, hold, and monitor strategy that aims for a 3-5 year investment period per holding. We invest in value-oriented companies at attractive prices. TUIG seeks companies with a history of effective management, favorable growth prospects, strong relative valuations, and a competitive advantage over leading competitors within their respective industries.
